How to write your personal statement

Tell your story, your way. A personal statement is your chance to shine – share your passion for the subject and tell us what’s shaped you beyond your grades.

Contextual Offers

Uni isn’t an option for you, right? Wrong.

Don’t meet the standard entry requirements? Don’t worry. We still welcome your application, and you could be eligible for a Contextual Offer.

As you know, grades alone don’t always reflect potential. And we understand there are many challenges you may face that can affect your academic performance. Contextual Offers consider your background, ambition and achievements.

Our Contextual Offer scheme is one of the most inclusive in the UK.¹ And in most cases, offers are applied automatically. All you need to do is apply as normal through UCAS.

Frequently asked questions

Hull offers Foundation Years for around half of its courses. A Foundation Year is an extra year at the start of your studies, designed to build up your knowledge, confidence, and academic skills. Ideal if you don’t quite meet the UCAS points needed. Typically, you’ll need 80 UCAS points, but we also consider your motivation, potential, and life experience.

We use more measures in comparison to other Contextual Offer schemes, and the tariff reductions to offers are greater than comparable schemes offered elsewhere.
